Attending our concerts

Do I need to know about the music in advance?

Not at all! Just come along with open ears and an open mind; let the music do the rest….. but if you would like to find out more, free downloads are available to listen to in advance for most pieces, so too details about the composers and their works are easily accessible on the web. At the concert our conductor talks about the composers and pieces which enhances everyone’s experience.

What should I wear?

There is no dress code for Waveney Sinfonia concerts. Just wear whatever you feel most comfortable in.

When should I clap?

There are no set rules, though generally audience members wait until the end of a whole piece before clapping. Certain pieces are separated into movements – with a short pause in the music – during which most audience members choose not to applaud.

Can I take food and drink?

Please do not bring food into the concert venue, as it may impact on other audience members. A bottle of water may be brought in. Refreshments are generally served during the interval.

Will I be able to take photos?

We are happy for you to take photos at our concerts during applause breaks. We do, however, ask you to be mindful of disturbing the artists and other audience members. Please do share your concert experience with us and others on social media.

Will I be able to make a recording of the concert?

Recordings are not permissible without prior consent.

The use of all smoking materials (including vapes and e-cigarettes) are not permitted in any indoor areas of our concert venues.

  • Rehearsals – casual, comfortable and appropriate for the season
  • Concert – all black with a ‘splash of red’ (handkerchief/headband/scarf/ tie/jewellery/socks/shoes etc)

They can be obtained on the door, or reserved via a request on the website.

Are recordings made or photographs taken?

Recordings may be made by the Society for our own use. Photos may be taken of the orchestra/soloist/conductor during applause breaks. Please be aware that these may be shared on social media, but names will not be shown.

Is there a fee or subscription to be paid?

No, but we do encourage players to give a meaningful contribution to reflect and support the significant costs involved to putting on such a musical offer. This can be done via our ‘pink piggy bank’ or a donation to the Treasurer and facilitate Gift Aid

Food and drink

You will need to bring your own food for both the rehearsal and concert weekends. Tea and coffee are provided during rehearsal breaks; we ask you to bring your own cup and for donations to support the costs of these refreshments.

Smoking & vaping:

The use of all smoking materials (including vapes and e-cigarettes) are not permitted in any indoor areas of our concert venues.
